   PAS 4: International Conference on the
   Physiology & Acoustics of Singing

   

The Fourth International Conference on the Physiology and Acoustics of Singing (PAS 4) will be held at The University of Texas, San Antonio in January 2009. This biennial conference draws together voice scientists, voice teachers, choral directors, and interested others to share research and discuss matters of mutual concern.

PAS 1 was hosted by the Groningen Voice Research Lab in The Netherlands. PAS 2 was held in Denver at the National Center for Voice & Speech. PAS 3 was held at Yorkminster Cathedral, York, England.

Conference Chair for PAS 4 is John Nix, Associate Professor of Voice and Voice Pedagogy, Music Department, UTSA. Dates for the conference are still pending. However, it will occur either January 8-10, 2009, or January 15-17, 2009.

According to Chairman Nix, the focus of PAS 4 will be on choral singing, specifically the distinctions between choral and solo singing. The proposed format is as follows:

Day One: Tutorial sessions by:

Day Two:
    Keynote address: Ingo Titze,
    University of Iowa/National Center for Voice & Speech, USA

    Balance of morning session will be devoted to 30 minute research presentations by senior investigators.

    Afternoon: 20 minute presentations on pilot studies, research in progress and presentations by younger investigators. Possible poster paper session also.


Day Three:
    Keynote address TBA.

    Afternoon: 20 minute presentations on pilot studies, research in progress and presentations by younger investigators. Possible poster paper session also.


Breakfasts and meals together for informal conversations each day.
